The business was established in 1976 with initial plans to service the animation industry as a Rostrum Camera facility. However, as industry demands changed, Peerless transformed as a company. As part of these changes, Optical Printing facilities were set up and the company's operations became more biased towards optical and special effects. Then, during the 1990s, Peerless became directly involved in digital imaging technology with the installation of Europe's first Flame compositing system.
